Suicide and Autism

Suicidal ideation among children and teens is alarming.  However, a recent study indicates that children and teens diagnosed with autism are 28 times more likely to contemplate or attempt suicide than non-autistic children and teens.

As shocking as that finding is, autistic children and teens are still three times less likely than depressed non-autistic children and teens to contemplate or attempt suicide.

The study results were published in the journal Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
